Internal Medicine News - Trial data added to coreg label

The label of Coreg (carvedilol) has been changed to include data from two clinical trials that show reduced risk of repeat MI and reduced risk of MI in heart failure patients. Patients participating the Carvedilol Post-Infarct Survival Control in Left Ventricular Dysfunction (CAPRICORN) study experienced a 40% reduction in fatal or nonfatal MI. According to the trial results, when carvedilol was initiated within 21 days and maintained long term in patients following an MI that damaged the heart, the risk of dying was reduced by 23%.
